Speaker:   Dr. Patricia Okker, President of New College
Topic:   Building Tomorrow's Thought Leaders: How New College Inspires Entrepreneurs
Patricia Okker, Ph.D., was appointed president of New College of Florida on July 1, 2021. 

Prior to her appointment she had a lengthy career at the University of Missouri serving as the Chair of the English Dept., then the Provost’s Office, followed by appointment as the Dean of the College of Arts and Science in 2017.

Her teaching and research interests include 19th-century American literature, American women writers, and American periodicals.

She received the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence in 2003. All her degrees are in English Language and Literature, with a B.A. from Allegheny College, M.A. from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Covid Protocols

Bird Key Yacht Club uses UVL in the AC units, a fogger is used on alternate Sundays. Staff wear face masks, and hand sanitizers will be available at the Registration table. Tables and guests will be distanced farther apart than normal.

Please wear a face mask when you enter the Yacht Club. The safety of all our registrants and Luncheon attendees is of utmost importance to SCAS.
  • Please stay home if feeling feverish or coughing prior to the Luncheon.
By attending the September 15 Luncheon, you agree to abide by and engage in certain health and safety beneficial conduct while attending the meeting. This includes, but is not limited to, wearing a mask at all times inside the Yacht Club unless actively eating or drinking, maintaining appropriate physical distancing, and not attending the event if you are ill or have been recently exposed to COVID-19.
  • Let’s all do our part to keep each other safe. We encourage everyone to follow the science and get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Attendees should not attend an in-person event if they—or anyone in their household—are displaying any of the following symptoms:
